Abstract

744,367. Automatic current control systems. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A. Nov. 26, 1953 [Nov. 26, 1952], No. 29964/52. Class 38 (4). In a system for automatically maintaining equal the relative currents of three Schrage motors by means of three reversible pilot motors each actuating the main motor brushes or an associated induction regulator, currents corresponding respectively to the load currents are supplied to the primary windings of three balancing transformers each having a secondary winding controlling its pilot motor in accordance with the vector difference between pairs of load currents. The transformers are saturable to protect the pilot motors. The motors (not shown) are supplied at A, B and C, Fig. 1. Current transformers 10A, 10B, 10C energize the primary windings 14A, 13B; 14B, 13C; 14C, 13A respectively of balancing transformers 12A, 12B, 12C, so that their secondary windings 15A, 15B, 15C have outputs proportional to the vector differences between the three motor currents taken in pairs. These secondaries each energize one phase winding of each of the pilot motors 11A, 11B, 11C which operate as reversible two phase motors to adjust the brushes of the Schrage motors. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), each pilot motor is supplied through an interrupter so as to prevent it from continuing to run as a single phase motor when the control winding is not energized. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the pilot motors are braked by passing D.C. through their reference windings whilst the A.C. is interrupted. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) all three windings of each pilot motor may be connected to a three phase supply through reversing contactors so that the motors can be manually controlled. In - a further modification, Fig. 5, the interruption of the A.C. supply 1, 2, 3 to each pilot motor, only one of which is shown, e.g. 11, and the intermittent connection to the D.C. braking source 42, is effected respectively by contacts 36, 37 and 39, 40, actuated by a solenoid 35 in series with the control winding 1. The motor thus runs when the error signal in winding 15 exceeds a given limit, and is braked below the limit. Contacts 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50 enable the selection of " manual raise," automatic " and " manual lower to be made.
