Abstract

744,211. Soldering. ENTHOVEN & SONS, Ltd., H. J. April 9, 1954 [Oct. 21, 1953], No. 29050/53. Class 83 (4). In a flat solder preform comprising upper and lower solder layers and an intermediate flux layer, the solder layers are connected by one or more solder ribs extending through the flux layer. A cylindrical solder rod 1 with five sector-shaped flux cores 2 is rolled into the strip shown in Fig. 3. Preforms, e.g. circular washers, are blanked therefrom. A flat rod 11 with nine or more flux cores 12 is rolled into a thin strip from which preforms are blanked. In a modification the cores in the flat rod are of parallelogram shape. The preforms may be provided with perforations 25, Fig. 10, in their upper and/or lower layers to allow flux outflow, either simultaneously with or after the blanking- out operation. Alternatively the thin strip may be perforated before blanking out preforms by rolling it with rollers having projections thereon.
