Abstract

744,063. Uncoiling strip metal from reels. EVANS, F. A. March 26, 1954 [March 27, 1953], No. 8500/53. Class 83 (4). Means for feeding metal strip from a coil comprises an endless belt, driven by an electric motor, on which belt the coil rests, and means, controlled by the coil loop, adapted to switch the motor on or off to control the rate of feed of the strip. A coil 10 of metal strip is supported on the upper run of a slatted endless belt 12, driven by a sprocket 15, between adjustable side frames 23. Loop control means to prevent over-feeding of the strip comprises a switch 26, for a motor 22 driving the belt, controlled by a rockable member 27 having an upper cross-rod 29 formed with two transverse fingers 30, 31 between which the strip loop, or outermost turn, 32, passes. The strip may pass through straightening rolls 37, and driven feed rolls 38, controlled by a switch means 40 operated by variation in tension of the feed strip, to a machine for operating on the strip.
