Class 146(3) A solid marking medium, the marks of which are removable upon the application of moderate heat, i.e., about 200‹F to 300‹F, comprises at least 85 per cent by weight. of at least one crystalline base material which is chemically inert towards cloth and is readily volatile on moderate heating, and from 0.25 to 15 ber cent of at least one binding agent for the base material which is readily volatile on moderate heating or leaves a substantially invisible 'residue after volatilization of the base material. Naphthalene may be used as base material, while the binding agent may be a paraffin wax, carnauba wax, stearic acid, benzoic acid, hexamine, benzidine, p-dichloro benzene, and urea used singly or in combination. The residue of binding agent is substantially invisible because it is colourless, or visible with difficulty against the cloth, e.g., in the case of benzoic acid, or because such a small quantity remains, e.g., in the case of a wax. For example, the medium may comprise 97 per cent of naphthalene, 2 per cent stearic acid, and 1 per cent benzoic acid. Examples of suitable base materials are anthracene, benzophenone, camphor, ethyl urethane, cinnamic acid, #- naphthol, trichlorophenol, #-naphthol, iodoform, benzil, dinitronaphthalene, diphenylamine, diphenyl, diphenyl ether, ethylene iodide, #-nitronaphthalene, phthalic acid, phthalic anhydride, borneol, benzoin, hexamine, p-dichlorobenzene, metaldehyde, urea, #-naphthylamine, phenanthrene, #-naphthylamine, coumarin.
