Abstract
The invention comprises compounds obtainable by effecting an addition reaction between one mol. of chlorine and one mol. of an N-substituted thiocarbamyl chloride of formula <FORM:0743559/IV(a)/1> wherein R1 represents an alkyl radical, R2 represents an alkyl or aryl radical, or R1 and R2 together represent a polymethylene or oxapolymethylene radical. The chlorination is conducted under substantially non-aqueous conditions, preferably in presence of an inert solvent (e.g. aliphatic and chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons) and preferably at a temperature between -20 DEG and 100 DEG C. The perchloride products may be further reacted under substantially non-aqueous conditions with a thiuram sulphide of formula <FORM:0743559/IV(a)/2> wherein R3, R5 and R4, R6 are defined as for R1 and R2 respectively and x is an integer (preferably 2), to give three molecules of the corresponding N - substituted thiocarbamyl chlorides. The examples describe the preparation of diethylthiocarbamyl chloride perchloride, and the treatment of tetraethylthiuram disulphide with this perchloride to give diethylthiocarbamyl chloride.
