Abstract
743,179. Cathode-ray tubes. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd. April 17, 1953 [June 5, 1952], No. 14238/52. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group XL (c)] In a deflecting coil assembly for a television receiver comprising a first series-connected pair of deflecting coils 1, 2, Fig. 1, for the X-directon (line rear) and a second series connected pair of coils 3, 4 for the Y-direction (frame rear) the coils being assembled in a castellated yoke 5 of magnetic material, unbalance between the currents of the two line deflection coils and the consequent production of a harmonic component causing " rippling " of the scanning lines is compensated by an auxiliary winding or windings 9, 10 of one or more short-circuited turns entirely separate electrically from the pairs of deflecting coils, the winding or windings 9, 10 surrounding one or more of the polepieces of the yoke which is or are associated with the deflecting coils producing the Y- deflection. As shown, the coils are of saddletype and the yoke 5 is of " cubic ferrite material". Instead of being short-circuited the ends of each winding 9, 10 may be connected via a capacitor, and each winding and capacitor may form a circuit resonant at the ripple frequency. The Provisional Specification suggests that the yoke 5 can be dispensed with.
