Abstract

743,124. Fibrous separator plates for electric accumulators. BRITISH FIBRAK SEPARATOR CO., Ltd. July 31, 1953 [Aug. 27, 1952], No. 21594/52. Class 96. Paper pulp 3, Figs. 1 and 2, from a roll 1 is floated at 5 on the surface of a phenolic resin solution, excess of which is pressed out at 6, 7, the paper being dried at 8, and either reeled at 9 or embossed by rollers 12, 15, the first roll 15 embossing a central rib, and following rolls 15 adding to the number of ribs on each side of the first. Rollers 16 are finned to maintain all ribs in the grooves in the roll 12, which is heated to polymerize the resin in and adjacent to the ribs, the crests of which are then coated with further resin by a roll 21 in a bath 19 and coacting with a roll 20. The pulp is then dried and further cured at 22, impregnated with a wetting agent, e.g. turkey red oil, at 23, trimmed at 24, and cut by a guillotine at 25. The roll 12 has recesses between the grooves in its surface. Specification 672,122 is referred to.
