[Also in Groups V and X] Profiled panels are produced by pressing a loose mixture of disintegrated fibrous material and binding material to assume a profiled shape, and heating while still under pressure between plane parallel electrodes, a moulding board being provided between the profiled surface or surfaces and the corresponding electrode or electrodes. Two or more glue-coated wood veneers are placed on one or both sides of the mixture and shaped and heated with it to produce a laminated panel. As shown, a loose mixture 32, Fig. 2, of disintegrated fibrous material and adhesive is laid on sheets of glue-coated veneer 28 laid over a separating paper sheet on a moulding board 10, the mixture being retained in place by a frame 15 which is to form part of the finished panel and a superposed filling frame 12. The mixture is preliminarily shaped by pressing on by hand a board 13, the working surface of which is shaped to correspond with that of board 10. The board 13 is lifted off, the hollows in the pressed mixture are filled in by further material, a pressing board 14, Fig. 3, is laid on, and the assembly pressed without heating to reduce its thickness. After removal of the frame 12 and board 14, a glue-coated veneer collar 16, Fig. 4, is laid on the frame 15 followed by glue-coated veneers 33 and a paper sheet. The assembly is then pressed and heated between plane parallel electrodes of a high-frequency heating system to set the adhesive. The fibrous material may be woodmeal, chippings, or shavings, lignite waste, peat, chopped or ground dried plant stems such as straw, maize stems, or hay. The adhesive may be a phenol-, urea-, melamine-, or anilineformaldehyde resin, animal glue, bone glue to which rye or wheat flour may be added. The hardening of synthetic resins may be promoted by adding an acid or acid salt, soda, borax, or ammonia.
