Abstract

742,827. Walls ; windows. QUICKTHO (1928), Ltd., and NASMYTH, A. J. Sept. 14, 1954 [Oct. 23, 1953], No. 29377/53. Classes 20(3) and 20(4). A curtain walling member for attachment to a supporting framework, comprises three spaced vertical plates 5, 12, Fig. 1, connected along a vertical edge by a base 1, the plates 5 being slotted at 7 to provide for the attachment thereto of horizontal components. As shown the walling member is formed by extrusion from an aluminium alloy, the base 1 being formed or provided with means for connecting it to the components of a supporting steel, or reinforced concrete, framework, and the plates 5 having integral side flanges 4 which are right angled. At spaced intervals in the height of the walling member the outer portions of flanges 4 are formed with recesses 6 level with the slots 7. Each horizontal component comprises a plate 8 having a flange 9 which is cut away at 10 to allow the end of the plate 8 and the upper part of the flange 9 to enter slot 7, the latter being sealed by a filling member 11 secured by screws 13, Fig. 3, or bolts passing through holes 14, 15. A cover plate 16 closes the open side of the walling member, a spring metal channel 17 on plate'16 engaging the enlarged end 18 of plate 12. The horizontal and vertical members may receive framed opening windows or two of the horizontal members may form the top and bottom guides for horizontally sliding windows or the head and sill of vertically sliding ones. Solid panels or doors may be fitted in some of the spaces. A fixed pane 19 -may be mounted by channel-section members 20 secured by angle members 21, 22. In a modification the filling member 11 has a central portion of increased thickness engaging slot 7. layers of waterproof mastic material being disposed between the surfaces of members 5 and 11 on each side of the central portion. The cover plate may have inturned flanges on its vertical edges which engage beadings formed on the vertical edges of the members 5. The plates 8 may be downwardly inclined.
