In a fireplace construction as described and claimed in the parent Specification the briquettes are mounted on a slabbed backing of cement their back faces being formed with keys for this purpose. As shown the briquettes 10 are formed with keys 11 for the slabbing material 12 and in a modification the modified briquettes with their slabbed backing are shown applied to a fireplace with a back boiler. If desired the slabbing 12 may extend through to the front face of the briquettes and round the top and bottom edges or perimeter of each one so as to prevent them from becoming loose or detached.
