Abstract

742,375. Burners. ADRIANOFF, A. June 26, 1953 [July 1, 1952], No. 17847/53. Class 75(1). [Also in Group XII] A device for the simultaneous control of the fuel and the combustion air intakes in a burner or furnace comprises an intermediate member connected between the air valve and the fuel valve and provided with a plurality of parts each of which can be adjusted in situ for a corresponding one of a series of positions of the fuel valve to determine a corresponding optimum setting of the air valve and being so constructed that the air valve moves without discontinuity and without oscillation from one setting to the next. The intermediate member shown in Fig. 2 consists of a slotted plate 11 connected to the shaft of a valve controlling the flow of fuel to a burner so that when the shaft is rotated by hand or by a servo-motor the plate moves linearly. Two screws 13 are adjustably secured in each of the slots of the plate and carry vanes 14 forming a continuous path for a roller 16 on the end of a rod 17 connected to a butterfly valve in the air supply duct of the burner. In another embodiment the intermediate member comprises a shaft carrying a plurality of radial fingers which are adjustable in length and direction and which abut in turn against a pivoted plate connected to a butterfly valve controlling the air supply. The shaft is connected by an eccentric drive or by a connecting rod and crank to a sprocket driven by a servo-motor or hand-wheel and the sprocket is also connected by two adjustable rods to the fuel valve. In the burner installation shown in Fig. 6, liquid fuel is supplied by a pump 51 through a pressure. regulating valve 52 to an atomizer 56 and the delivery of the atomizer is regulated by a valve 57 controlling the return flow of excess fuel from the atomizer to the intake side of the pump. This excess fuel is also conveyed to a cylinder 59 to move a spring- returned piston carrying a rod 71 having a plurality of fingers 72 of adjustable length which abut in turn a rod 74 actuating a butterfly valve controlling the air supply. A leaf spring 73 ensures that the fingers slide over the end of the rod.
