Abstract

742,215. Folding seats. KENEX COACH WORK, Ltd. Aug. 27, 1954 [Oct. 26, 1953], No. 29562/53. Class 52(2). [Also in Group XXXII] A light carrier van type motor vehicle which can be used to transport goods or passengers is provided with two lines of seats on opposite sides of the body and some of these seats may be converted into two lines of transverse seats facing forwardly instead of laterally. Each line of seats comprises a rear part 5 adapted to accommodate two persons, an intermediate part 6 for one person and a forward pair of parts 7, 8. The parts can be folded upwards about a horizontal axis and secured against the side walls of the vehicle body. The part 7 has hinges 12 to secure a seat extension 11 which can be positioned so that it forms an extension of the seat 7 and extends across to contact a similar extension of the opposite seat 7. The extensions 11 carry pivoted frames 17 which serve as legs supporting the transverse seating. Similar extensions 19 are provided on the part 5 of the seating so that the vehicle can have two rows of transverse seats. Back rests 22 which are normally secured longitudinally to the sides of the vehicle are detachable and can be placed in position to act as back rests for the transverse seating. An additional seat 32 is provided besides the drivers' seat, the seat 32 being foldable towards the driver to allow passengers to leave and enter by the side door. The base of the seat is hinged at 36 to the upper edge of a leg board 34 fixed to the footstep panel 33 and is also hinged at 38 to a further leg board 37, both boards being connected together by a link 39. The seat has a foldable back rest 40.
