Abstract

Reaction products of cationic and anionic surface-active agents are prepared by reacting a cationic surface-active base which has one or more functionally basic groups containing sulphur or quaternary or non-quaternary nitrogen and an anion-active acid which is a fatty acid, an acid sulphate of a fatty alcohol or an alkylaryl sulphonic acid. Suitable cationactive substances are those sold under the registered Trade Marks "Sapamin," "Soromin" and "Velan". In examples: (1) a waxy product is prepared by heating dioxydiethylenetriamine distearylamide with distearic acid; (2) lauryldimethylsulphonium oleate is prepared by reacting sodium oleate with lauryldimethylsulphonium methosulphate; (3) oleic acid and diethylethylene diamine-oleylamide are reacted together. The products are used as ingredients of hair-treating compositions (see Group IV (c)). Specifications 316,090, 328,675, [both in Class 2 (iii)], 358,202 and 442,466 are referred to.ALSO:A hair-treating composition in the form of a cream is characterized in that it contains in association with a hair dye or permanent waving agent a product obtained by reacting a cationic surface-active base which has one or more functionally basic groups containing sulphur or quaternary or non-quarternary nitrogen and an anionactive acid which is a fatty acid, an acid sulphate of a fatty alcohol or an alkylaryl sulphonic acid. The reaction products can be prepared by dissolving the reactants together or by double decomposition or by quaternization of the cation-active group after the formation of a salt with the anionactive acid. The products maintain, in dispersion, hair dyes and permanet waving agents such am ammonium thioglycollate. When used in hair-dyeing, the excess cream can be removed by shampooing. Suitable cation-active substances are, e.g., those sold under the Registered Trade Marks, "Sapamin", "Soromin" and "Velan", which may be used as their hydrochloric, acetic or methyl sulphonic acid salts. The compositions can contain as solvents alcohols, glycols, glycol ethers and esters, sorbital, glycerine and formamide. Hair dye liquids obtained can be transformed into a cream on adding water or aqueous solutions, e.g., of hydrogen peroxide. In examples (1) a cream for permanent waving is prepared by forming a waxy reaction product from dioxydiethylene - triamine - distearylamide and stearic acid, heating with borax, sorbitol and water, and when the mixture is homogeneous cooling to 30 DEG C. and adding ammonium thioglycolate and ammonia; (2) a hair dye is obtained by mixing a solution in isopropyl alcohol of a waxy product obtained as in (1) with a solution of hair dye and hydrogen peroxide to give a creamy preparation. As an alternative, there may be used lauryldimethyl-sulphonium oleate obtained by reacting sodium oleate and lauryldimethylsulphonium methosulphate; (3) a reaction product of equi-molecular amounts of oleic acid and diethyl-ethylenediamine oleylamide is dissolved in isopropyl alcohol and mixed with commercial hair dye solutions containing soaps.
