Abstract

741,109. Endless conveyers. ASAHI GARASU KABUSHIKI KAISHA. May 4, 1953 [May 6, 1952], No. 12378/53. Class 78 (1). Glass sheets are fed to and positioned on an endless conveyer in timed relation with its movement, such that upon release by the feeding device a sheet is fed along the conveyer surface until its forward edge is arrested by a retractable stop on the conveyer, the stop being projected from below the conveyer surface when adjacent the feeding device. As shown, the sheet 30 is placed on a tilting table formed by side bars 11, a lower support 14, and a transverse bar 18 carrying a supporting roller (not shown), the side bars 11 being pivotally mounted on the driving shaft 4 of the conveyer which is composed of slats 2 carried by a pair of chains 1. The bar 18 is carried in slots 17 in the bars 11 so that the position of the supporting roller can be adjusted to support the forward edge of the glass sheet. A crank 29 is driven in timed relation with the driving shaft 4 and is coupled to the tilting frame by a link 24 so that the frame is tilted periodically to deliver a glass sheet thereon to the conveyer surface formed by the slats 2. As the table becomes horizontal, a roller 21 carried by a crank 20 pivoted to each side bar 11 comes into contact with an abutment 23 to cause the forked arm 22 of crank 20 to engage bar 18 and shift it, together with the supporting roller, forwards from under the glass sheet which thus drops on to the conveyer with its rear edge overhanging the end of the conveyer. The rear end of the glass sheet is thus engaged by slats passing from around the driving sprockets 5 on to the conveying run. Owing to the closing of the spaces A, the sheet is inched forwards until the front edge of the sheet engages the stops 9, Fig. 5, normally held by springs (Fig. 7, not shown) within recesses 10 in certain slats 2, but which are raised by the action of fixed ramps 26. After the sheet is wholly supported by the horizontal run of the slats 2, stops 9 are lowered and the sheet is in position for delivery to glass cutting apparatus. The tilting table is adjusted for differing lengths of sheets by a rack-and-pinion connection 15, 16 between a frame carrying the support 14, and the side bars 11.
