Abstract

The invention comprises salts of esters of d- and l-hyoscine and atroscine with saturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acids containing 3-5 carbon atoms in the molecule, and the production thereof by reacting the alkaloids or mixtures thereof, or their salts, with the chloride or anhydride of the appropriate acid under conditions known to be suitable for the acylation of methylol groups, converting the product into a salt if it is not already in this form, and purifying the said salt. Examples describe the esterification of (1) and (2) l-hyoscine hydrobromide and atroscine hydrobromide with propionic anhydride; (3)-(5) l-hyoscine hydrobromide, atroscine hydrobromide and d-hyoscine hydrobromide with n-butyric anhydride; (6) atroscine hydrobromide with n-valeryl chloride; (7) l-hyoscine hydrobromide with isovaleryl chloride.
