Abstract

740,496. Non-conducting coverings. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 9,1954 [July 15, 1953], No. 19703/53. Class 64(2). Fibre glass lagging for a pipe A fills an outer shell B which comprises two semi-cylindrical halves consisting of glass cloth impregnated with artificial resin. The lagging may consist of fibre glass rings E made in halves and arranged face to face, as shown, or may consist of a blanket of fibre glass wound round the pipe. The outer shell is supported from inside at intervals by flanged diaphragms C of the same material as the shell, and the narrowed ends of the shell are spaced from the pipe A by sleeves P of the same material. The shell is held together by circular clamping strips H, S, and by sealing strips along its longitudinal joints. These strips consist of glass cloth tape impregnated with artificial resin, and are applied wet. The halves of the shell have turned-in flanges D along their longitudinal edges.
