566,682. Bearings. CONTINENTALDIAMOND FIBRE CO. Dec. 1, 1943, No. 20050. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1943. [Class 12 (i)] In a bearing consisting of axial longitudinal strips 11 confined within a tube 10 (e.g. a stern tube bearing), the line joining the centre points 15a of effective contact at the ends of each strip passes within the mass centre C, so that the direction of the forces resulting from expansion of the strips is outwards, as shown by the arrow B. The inward position of the points 15a is produced by bevels 17, Fig. 2, or rabbets 18, Fig. 3. The inner edges of the strips are rabbeted at 12 to form the waterlubricant grooves 13. The strips preferably consist of fabric impregnated with resinous material and then moulded.
