740,297. Roller conveyers; load-handling machines. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA METALLVERKEN. Nov. 6, 1953 [Nov. 7, 1952], No. 30856/53. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (3). In apparatus for piling strips of material, the strips are conveyed to the site 5 by a roller conveyer 2 and are discharged therefrom by pushers 7 mounted on bars 8 which move transversely to the conveyer, the bars being moved simultaneously to discharge a strip and retracted oneby one, or in sets, to deposit it. When a pile is completed, it is moved away from the conveyer by a series of carriages 25 to permit the formation of another pile. Each rail 8, Fig. 2, moves between a pair of guides 9 and is connected at 17 to a chain 16 which is driven by a motor 18. The site 5 is formed with channels 24 in each of which is disposed a pair of beams 26, Fig. 5, on the lower flanges of which run the wheels of a carriage 25. Each carriage is connected to a driving chain 29. The beams 26 are supported by the plungers 38 of fluid-pressure cylinders 39, so that they can be raised to bring the carriages into contact with the bottom of a pile to raise it above the site and, after the carriages have been moved to transfer the pile, lowered to deposit the pile in the new position. The strips are removed one by one from the piles by a device consisting of rollers 42, 43 and a strip separator 44. Specification 737,069, [Group XVI], is referred to.
