A light projector for illuminating a small area such as a part of the body being operated on, comprises a mirror 9, a bulb 12, a condenser lens system 10a, 10b, an objective lens in a holder 6 and means providing a forced circulation of air to cool the bulb, all being supported on a collar 2, and a diaphragm 16 supported on the holder 6 of the objective lens between the objective lens and the condenser lens system 10a, 10b. The cooling unit comprises a cylindrical openended housing 4 supported on three legs 3 extending inwardly and rearwardly from the collar 2 and containing a fan 15 and an electric motor 14. The mirror 9 is secured to the centre of a member 7 extending across the rear face of the collar and the condenser lens system 10a, 10b is secured in a central aperture in a partition 8 secured to the front face of the collar. The socket 13 for the bulb 12 is mounted on the collar. The objective lens holder 6 is supported on three legs 5 extending inwardly and forwardly from the collar. The collar is pivotally mounted upon a U-shaped cradle 19 on the end of a rod 21 rotatably received in the upper end of a vertical telescopic arm 22 mounted on a tripod provided with rollers. A handle 23 is detachably mounted on the end of a rod 24 extending from a bracket 25 secured to the collar 2. The projector casing 18 is egg-shaped and formed in two symmetrical halves secured to the collar. The front half has a central aperture receiving the objective lens and the rear half has vents 17. Vents are also formed in the collar. A three position switch is provided for energizing the cooling system alone, the bulb alone, or both together.
