Abstract

739,400. Vehicle floors; floors for railway vehicles. SOUTHERN FORGE, Ltd. Oct. 21, 1954 [Oct. 15, 1953; Jan. 25, 1954], Nos. 28478/53 and 2166/54. Classes 103 (4) and 108 (1). [Also in Group X] Metal flooring for use in the flooring of transport wagons, lorries and like vehicles, comprises in combination, channel-section crossbearers 1 or 10, floor elements 2 each having depending webs 2a arranged in spaced pairs, each pair having oppositely directed flanges 2b at their lower ends, and clamping shoes 3 for securement to the cross-bearers 1 or 10, each shoe formed to bridge a pair of the depending webs 2a and to bear on the flanges 2b. As shown in Fig. 1, each web 2a has a double flange 2b, 2c between which a wing 3c of a clamping shoe 3 is slid. Each shoe 3 is formed with upstanding walls 3a with inturned upper lips to accommodate and retain a screwthreaded nut 5, preferably of the self-locking type, the shoe being secured to the upper flange 1a of a cross-bearer 1 by a bolt 4 passing through aligned holes and the nut 5 tightened. Each floor element 2 has three pairs of webs 2a, 2a so that the clamping shoes 3 may be placed at each end and centrally of a floor element at each successive cross-bearer, to prevent transverse distortion. In a modification, the flange 2c is omitted so that the shoes 3 may be inserted from below instead of being slid, the shoes being tilted as necessary. As shown in Fig. 3, the floor elements 2 and shoes 3 as in Fig. 1, are secured to each channelsection cross-bearer 10 by means of clamp members 11 through which the bolt 4 is passed. The flanges 10a of each bearer 10 are provided with dovetail edges 10b and the clamp members 11 have recessed -portions 11a which embrace and interlock with. the dovetail edges 10b. Bolt holes in the flanges 10a are therefore unnecessary and positioning difficulties eliminated.
