Abstract
739,348. Gyratory crushers. ALLIS-CHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 22, 1954, No. 2016/54. Class 59. [Also in Group XXIX] In a gyratory crusher, the inner crushing member 2 is supported for axial movement relative to the outer crushing member 3 by means of a piston 15 displaceable in a chamber 16 filled with fluid at predetermined pressure to support the inner crushing member in a predetermined axial position, an accumulator 24 being connected to the chamber 16 by means of conduits 31, 32 and having a piston 25, 26 which is biased by means of a fluid chamber, or a spring, Fig. 2 (not shown), under a pressure which is less than the predetermined pressure of the fluid in the chamber 16 so that the accumulator, on expansion of the chamber 16 caused by upward movement of the inner crushing member, supplies fluid to the chamber 16 to maintain it filled with fluid at a pressure insufficient to support the inner crushing member but sufficient to retard the movement of the inner crushing member back to its predetermined axial position during which movement fluid is gradually returned to the accumulator from the chamber 16. The chamber 23 is provided with a stop 28 for the piston 25, 26 during normal crushing conditions. Preferably, a flow regulator 34 is interposed between the accumulator 24 and the chamber 16 and comprises a spring-biased valve 36 which opens, when the chamber 16 expands, to allow free flow of fluid to the chamber 16 and closes, when the pressure in the chamber 16 exceeds that in the accumulator 24, fluid then flowing slowly back to the accumulator through a passage 41 and orifice 42 controlled by a needle valve 38. The chamber 16 is connected by means of a conduit 43 to an overload accumulator 44 into which liquid is forced from the chamber 16 upon abnormal increases of pressure in the crushing zone. The chamber 16 is also connected by means of a pipe 46 to a fluid reservoir 47, a hand pump 48 being provided in the pipe 46 for adjusting the distance between the crushing members.
