Abstract

738,476. Actuation of switches. WAALWIJK, L. C. A. Dec. 2, 1953 [May 21, 1953], No. 33453/53. Class 38 (5). A switch, arranged to be moved " on " and " off " by successive actuation of a pushbutton, has a latching member to prevent complete return of the push-button by a spring when the contacts are closed. In one form, Figs. 1 and 3, the latching member 3 is pivoted at 5 and is biased counter-clockwise against a stop 7 by a spring 8. When the button 1 is depressed to close the contacts (not shown), a lateral projection 2 on the button engages the edge of the member 3 which is thereby moved clockwise from its Fig. 1 position until the projection 2 enters a space 18 to allow the member 3 to swing back a small distance. When the button is released, it is held depressed by the engagement of projection 2 in an angle 12. A further depression of the button allows the member 3 to swing back into its Fig. 1 position, the button, when released, moving up the right-hand side of member 3. The latter has a portion 10 intersecting the path 6 of the button so that the button during its return movement tilts the member 3 about the pin 7, the pivot 5 being received in a slot 9 to permit such movement. In a modification, Fig. 6, the member 3 moves rectilinearly from side to side being guided by rollers 15, 16 in a fixed slot 14, the tilting of member 3 being permitted by a recess 20 in slot 14. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the member 3 is fixed and the projection 2 is formed on a lever 21 pivoted to the button at 22 and biased counter-clockwise by a spring 23. A spring- pressed member 25 on the apex of member 3 guides the projection into the path 26 on depression of the button, the member 25 lifting to allow the projection 2 to pass it on its vertical return movement along path 29.
