Abstract

738,447. Sheet - delivery apparatus. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). Aug. 23, 1954 [Aug. 22, 1953], No. 23184/53. Addition to 736,086. Class 100 (1). A machine as described in the parent Specification is provided with workpiece retaining members 28, 100 adapted to engage a leading portion of a workpiece W after the leading portion has been deposited on a work support H and to retain the leading portion on the support until the remainder of the workpiece has been deposited. The inboard pressing member 28 is mounted on a shaft 42 urged by helical springs in an anti-clockwise direction. Also mounted on the shaft is a ratchet member 70 co-operating with a pawl 74 normally urged by springs to engage the ratchet 70. When the conveyer 26 swings from the position shown in Fig. 2 to that shown in Fig. 1 an adjustable screw 88 thereon releases the pawl 74 from the ratchet 70 so that the member 28 is spring urged into work-retaining position. The member 28 is returned to its inoperative position by means of leaf springs 154 on the conveyer 26. The outboard pressing member 100 is mounted on arms 116 adapted to swing about the axis 24. The member 100 is urged into work-retaining position by springs 130 and is operated in timed relation to movements of the conveyer 26 by a stop screw 140 mounted thereon which engages a leather diaphragm 149 on the member 100. The pressing members are made in the form of relatively wide three-prong forks of wood provided with felt pads 34, 106 having bevelled upper edges 36, 108 to avoid catching with the workpieces. The member 28 may be held in inoperative position by a headed shaft 166 mounted in a bracket 168 which engages the part 30. The member 100 may be held in inoperative position by means of a latch 174 pivoted at 134 which engages a bar 112 on the arms 116.
