Abstract
737,852. Winding apparatus. CHRISTIANSEN, T. N. Dec. 10, 1953 [Dec. 10, 1952], No. 34379/53. Class 78 (5). [Also in Group VI] In an automatic fishing-line reeling apparatus usable in bait jigging, the line drum, after a predetermined number of letting-out turns, is coupled under control of an adjustable control device to a driving shaft to reel-in the line. The line may be jigged by oscillating the drum under electrical control and when a fish bites the extra tension on the line causes relative rotary and axial movement of the drum on its shaft to render the electrical control for the oscillating of the drum ineffective to allow the drum to continue in the reeling-in direction until the drum is uncoupled from the driving shaft by the action of the control device, at which moment holding means operate to prevent the load on the line rotating the drum in the letting-out direction. Alternatively the line may be drawn in continuously at a variable speed by mounting the reeling part of the drum eccentrically on the shaft. As shown, a gear wheel 18 is rotated by a pinion 17 on the drum shaft 10 and carries adjustable pins 21, 211 which on rotation of the wheel, contact lever 22 which operates a switch in the energizing circuit of the electromagnetic coupler 8, 25 so that after a length of a line has been let out, the electromagnet 25 is energized to couple the drum shaft 10 and continuously running driving shaft 5 to rotate the drum 11 in the reeling-in direction until a cam 29 on the end of the drum contacts a press button 27 of a double press button switch 26 connected in the energizing circuit of the electromagnet 25 to open the circuit and stop rotation of the drum whereupon the sinker causes the drum to unwind until another projecting cam 30 contacts the other press button 28 to reclose the energizing circuit of electromagnet 25. This action is repeated until a fish bites whereupon the drum is moved rotatably and axially relative to the shaft 10 by the pin and slot connection 13, 14 to be held by a releasable catch 16 and take the cams 29, 30 out of the range of action with the switch 26 which is closed so that rolling-in progresses until the stop 21<SP>1</SP> contacts lever 22 and opens the energizing circuit of electromagnet 25. A solenoid 31 also in the said circuit is de-energized projecting its armature 31<SP>1</SP> to contact a projection 32 on the drum to hold this latter from rotation by the fish and sinker. Alternatively an electromagnet may be energized by operation of lever 22 when the electromagnet 25 is de-energized. A lever system 33 operated by lever 22 displaces the switch 26 out of range of the cams 29, 30 when the drum rotates in the unwinding direction.
