[Also in Group XXIX] In a liquid-level gauge glass 46, or rotameter, for cold fluids, having a sight element 54 of transparent material of relatively low heat conductivity, for example, as described in Specification 734,184, the said element is provided at its inner side with a peripheral flange 56 and encircling packing 58 adapted to be contacted by a rearwardly facing surface or surfaces on the frame-like cover 48 which clamps the gauge glass in position. The thicknesses of the uncompressed packing and of the flange and the formation of the facing surface or surfaces are such that the packing is compressed to form a pressure-tight seal before the flange is contacted.
