In wire-cable pulleys of the type having a cable-engaging fillet of a thermoplastic material such as polyvinyl chloride inserted in the rim, the fillet comprises a number of thermoplastic blocks 4 arranged endto-end and incorporating inlays of fibrous material in mesh, fabric or layered form in order to prevent or delay undue softening of the fillet as the result of a temperature rise -e.g. if the cable 2 slips. The inlays may comprise animal, vegetable, mineral or artificial fibres and may be formed as layers interleaved and pressed with layers of the thermoplastic, or as layers impregnated with the thermoplastic. The layers may be arranged radially or circumferentially and the fibres may be treated to reduce inflammability. The thermoplastic material is defined as one of "high molecular weight," mention being made, besides polyvinyl chloride, of polyesterisocyanates and materials having a basis of super polyamides.
