Abstract

737,154. Sweeping lawns &c. PARKER SWEEPER CO. Oct. 23, 1953, No. 29414/53. Class 6 (2). A sweeper for collecting leaves and grass cuttings from lawns, fairways and parks comprises a rotatable brush 35 and a receptacle including a flexible sheet 85 and means for moving the sheet to form a bale which is removable from the sweeper. As shown the receptacle is formed of side plates 71 mounted on a wheeled frame 10 and a top of wire mesh 77. The sheet 85 is supported on cross-members on the frame and is provided at one end with a rod 89 which is attached to a member 19 pivotally mounted. on the frame and operated by a handle 22. The other end of the sheet is provided with a rod 95 which engages in a bracket 82. The bale is formed by rotating the handle 22 to bring the rod 89 up to meet the rod 95. The brush 35 is mounted on the frame 10 and is driven from wheels 28 through gearing and a clutch and the brush is adjusted by a lever 44. An adjustable hood 65 directs material into the receptacle. Spare rolls of material are carried between brackets 79. In a modification the brush is adjusted by screw means and the lever 22 is replaced by a winch which raises one end of the sheet against the pressure of springs.
