Class 75 (3) In a lighter having a fuel storage agent such as wadding in contact with the wick and a fuel delivery regulator between the fuel container and the storage agent to prevent oversaturation of the agent, the regulator consists of material having fine interconnecting pores in absorption contact with the outlet of a duct communicating with the fuel container and having a volumetric size smaller than a drop of fuel adhering to the inlet after a temporary contact with the fuel. As shown, a holder 44 in the top wall of the fuel container holds a throttling device 42 in the form of a disc of ceramic material or a cellulose fibre washer, or a multi-layer filter paper disc, in contact on its upper side with the storage agent of wadding 41 and on its lower side with a duct 12 communicating with the interior 4 of the fuel container. The agent 41 may be compressed to varying degrees by a screw member 43 to regulate the height of the flame on the wick 45 of ceramic material and the end of the wick in contact with the agent 41 is enlarged into a disc-shaped member 47. A disc filter 27 at the inlet of the duct 12 removes water and other impurities from the fuel. The throttling device 42 may extend partially into the duct 12. In another embodiment the device 42 is held in a pocket in the top of the fuel container by an annular ring.
