Abstract

Titanium surfaces are treated for the removal of adherent scale with a molten alkali metal polysulphide composition until the scale is loosened, whereupon the polysulphide composition and loosedned scale are removed from the surface. The composition may comprise sodium or potassium polysulphides or both and may be buffered by the inclusion of a halide of an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or magnesium.
