Abstract
736,419. Sliding clasp fasteners.. MORNER, H. G. Sept. 5, 1952 [Sept. 15, 1951], No. 22441/52. Class 44. A fluid-tight closure comprises a pair of flexible strips 14 of elastomeric material which are substantially identical, each strip being formed with laterally extending lip portions having flat sealing surfaces 20 on the same side of the strip, and a plurality of rounded ribs 22 and a plurality of rounded grooves 24 alternating with each other and positioned between the lip portions the strip having a surface 16 on the side opposite the ribs and grooves of a width sufficient for attachment to the edges of the opening to be closed, and the ribs, grooves and flat sealing surfaces on one strip mating with complementary parts on the other strip as the strips are pressed together, the dimensions of the ribs being slightly greater than the dimensions of the grooves whereby the ribs and grooves are compressed as the strips are seated in each other. The strips may be engaged by a clasp, Fig. 4 made from sheet metal and having a centrally positioned web 32 at one end which forces the strips apart. A pull tab 30 is pivoted to the clasp and the top and bottom at the end remote from the web 32 have indentations 40 which each engage a groove 26 on one of the strips 14 to guide the clasp.
