Abstract

736,047. Depositing machines for marshmallow, jam &c. MEAGHER, W. D., and MEAGHER, G. April 7, 1954 [April 8, 1953], No: 9483/53. Class 87 (2). [Also in Group VI] In a depositing machine, viscous or plastic material such as marshmallow, jam or fondant, is fed by oppositely rotating rollers 23 into a feed chamber 11 and fills the space between a cylindrical wall 12 and one of a pair of vanes 15 of a rotor 14. The valve member 25 is initially in the position shown in Fig. 1 and the vane 15 drives the material through the orifices 15 and nozzles 18 on to biscuits or cakes carried by a conveyer 19, until it becomes adjacent valve member 25 when the latter rotates to close the orifice 16 to permit vane 15 to pass, opening again immediately for the cycle to be repeated with the other vane. The rotor 14 is integral with a power-driven shaft 30, which has a cam 31, Fig. 4, fixed thereon so that as it rotates, roller 28 mounted on arm 27 follows a peripheral flange 32 on the cam 31, and, on reaching gaps 33 in the flange 32, is rotated by spring 29 to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 4 and closes the delivery orifices 16 by valve member 25 which is attached to the other end of arm 27. In a modification, the valve member 25 may be triangular in shape moving into .a complementary seating. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the valve member 36 is arranged to slide up and down in a rectangular section recess 37 in a block 17 and has a row of holes 39 offset from the delivery orifices 16 so that the latter are closed when the valve member 36 is at the bottom of the recess 37.
