Abstract

A penicillin preparation for incorporation with fodder is prepared by suspending a sparingly water-soluble penicillin compound in an aqueous solution of a hydrophilic colloidal digestible organic substance and drying the solution by dispersion into preheated air either directly or upon a carrier kept in whirling suspension in a drying chamber by an upward stream of preheated air. Specified colloids are glue, gelatine, hydrolized starch, water-soluble cellulose dervatives, pectin, agar, gums and caragheen moss, and plasticizers, e.g. sugar, may be included. Carriers specified are lucerne and calcium carbonate, whilst penicillin compounds are salts derived from an organic base, e.g. procaine, diethyl amino ethyl p-hydroxy benzoate; and the dipenicillin salt of N,N1-dibenzyl ethylene diamine.
