Abstract

735,414. Sight mountings for firearms. LARSSON, O. B. Oct. 8, 1953 [Oct. 10, 1952], No. 27702/53. Class 119. A telescopic sight K, Fig. 3, is detachably mounted on a firearm by clamping straps 12, 13, Fig. 5, secured to a unitary attachment member 10 formed with a lower wedge-shaped guide portion 11a which is secured by a self-centering locking device 20 in a correspondingly wedgeshaped groove 3 in a unitary bracket 1 secured to the receiver L of the firearm. In an intermediate portion 3a between raised guiding surfaces 4 of the groove 3 is a longitudinally extending groove 5 with an end enlargement 7 and a centrally disposed recess 6 which forms a seating for the head 22 of a threaded lock pin 20. The centre portion of the attachment 10 has a bore 14 with an upper shoulder 15 forming a seating for a lock spring 30 and a lower shoulder 16 forming a spherical or conical seating for a nut 23 screwed onto the lock pin 20. The lower end portion of the bore 14 opens into a groove 17 which receives a guide portion 21 of the pin 20, the guide portion 21 merging into the head 22 which engages in the recess 6 in the bracket groove 3. The upper portion of the nut 23 receives a screw 28 for securing a control lever 29 to the nut 23, the hub of the lever 29 being keyed to nut 23 and its lower portion 25 forming an upper seating for the spring 30 which urges the lock pin head 22 upwardly into its seating 6. In assembly the lever 29 with the lock nut 23 is turned to its open position and the head 22 introduced into the recess 7. By an axial thrust on the screw 28 the locking device is depressed against the tension of the spring 30 and the attachment 10 is then slid back and forth a few times along the groove 3 to scrape clean the guiding surfaces. Upon relieving pressure from the screw 28 the locking device is raised by the spring 30 causing the head 22 to enter its seating 6 and to block the attachment against displacement. The lock nut 23 is then turned by the lever 29 to lock the parts in position.
