Abstract

735,219. Rotary duplicating machines. RITZERFELD, W., and RITZERFELD, G. Feb. 10, 1950, No. 24945/54. Divided out of 735,181. Classes 100 (1) and 100 (2). In a rotary duplicating machine having a printing drum 550 carrying a master sheet, and an impression roller 551 co-operating therewith, and in which the impression roller is moved into contact with the drum by means operated from the drum to effect duplicating of at least part of the master on to a copy sheet and is tripped to interrupt the duplicating, a sheetfeeding device is provided for moving the copy sheet into position between the drum 550 and roller 551 for printing the text portion while the impression roller is tripped and the printing drum is at rest. Prior to the machine being set in motion, the copy sheet is placed by hand with its front edge adjacent to the line of contact of the impression roller 551 with a spring-pressed roller 552, the roller 551 being in its tripped position. The roller 551 is then rotated manually by a knob on a spindle 556 having fixed thereto a toothed wheel 557 carrying a pawl 558 engaging a ratchet-wheel 559 which is free on the spindle. The ratchetwheel is connected to the impression roller 551 by a chain 561 and toothed gearing 562 ... 565, so that when the wheel 557 is turned anticlockwise by the knob, the pawl 558 rotates the wheel 559 and causes the roller 551 to be rotated so as to feed the copy sheet. A wheel 566 geared to the wheel 557 carries markings corresponding to lines on the copy sheet so as to indicate the amount by which the sheet is fed. The knob, when released, is returned by a spring 568 to its initial position together with the wheels 557, 566, during which movement the pawl 558 rides over the wheel 559 without rotating it. The movement of the impression roller away from and into contact with the printing drum, and the operation of the moistening device is controlled by a set of cams as described in Specification 735,181 with reference to Fig. 4 thereof.
