Abstract

734,595. Calculating-apparatus. BROOKS, G. July 14, 1953 [July 28, 1952], No. 19027/52. Class 106 (1). A medicinal dose computer for use in the treatment of burns or other superficial disorders comprises a table of dosages marked on a surface with respect to two co-ordinates representing patients' sizes (e.g. ages or weights) and area of body affected, and means slidable relatively to the surface to select a line of the table according to size and marked with values for selecting the dose according to area affected. In the apparatus shown, the table of doses 8 is marked on a slide 3 operating in an envelope 2 formed with a narrow transparent portion or window 5c. Lines of the table represent patients' ages marked on a marginal scale 6, whilst the columns represent percentage areas of body affected marked on a scale 9 along the window 5c. The slide 3 is adjusted until the patient's age appears in the window 5c and the dose is then read in the window against the appropriate value on scale 9. An additional dose.according to age, which has to be given regardless of the area of body affected, is shown in a column 7 of the table. Other factors dependent only upon age are shown in similar columns on the reverse side of the slide, these columns being read in a window on the rear of the envelope 2 and in alignment with the window 5c.
