A double closure for metal containers comprises an upturned flange 1, with its upper extremity extended outwardly to form a beading on which anchors an outer member 2, and its 'upper and inner periphery being adapted to form a seating for an inner lid 3, the outer member 2 resting upon the outwardly turned upper extremity of the flange as shown or upon the outer extremity of the lid 3 which in turn rests upon the upper extremity of the flange and being secured' in place by its outer edge having a tight engagement with the beading of the flange, a resilient gasket 4 and a cutting-wire 5 lying immediately beneath the outer member 2 and across the orifice with its ends protruding freely and so positioned that having pulled the cutting wire the member 2 will divide into two readily shaped portions. The gasket 4 may lie between the inner face or inturned edge of the member 2 and the beading of the flange or between the upper inner periphery of the flange and the lid 3 or between the lid 3 and the outer member 2 and may be in the form of a resilient coating applied to the appropriate surface. The cutting wire may be of high tensile steel and may be a closed loop formed into approximately dumb-bell shape.
