A strainer for a high-pressure steam plant comprises at least one metal plate in which parallel slots a, b, Fig. 1, at right angles to each other are milled on opposite sides to a sufficient depth to intersect and form holes d. A cylindrical straining unit is formed from two such plates g bent to semi-cylinders and welded together at the ends. The units are braced by welded cross-struts e and have welded lugs h for lifting tackle.
