Class 83 (4). A process for making metallo-ceramic agglomerates including such as contain no free metal, by exothermal reaction comprises causing a pulverulent mixture capable of a controlled exothermal reaction and composed of one or more metals with one or more elements or compounds to react and agglomerate by initial ignition in the impressed state in a mould and, after ignition, pressing the agglomerate into the desired shape. A mould 1 provided with a pressing stamp 2 is filled with a pulverulent mixture 3 of aluminium and chromium oxide. The mixture is ignited by magnesium powder 4 placed on the top surface of the mixture. During the firing of the mixture the stamp is lowered to compress the metallo - ceramic agglomerate into, e.g., a thin disc 5. Alternatively the pressing can be carried out after the complete burning of the mixture providing the agglomerate is in a deformable condition. Specification 733,339 is referred to.
