Abstract

733,151. Friction-grip fastenings. SILVER & EDGINGTON, Ltd., [trading as EDGING- TON, B., [Firm of], and TAYLOR, W.]. Aug. 27,1952 [Aug. 27, 1951]. No. 20181/51. Class 44. [Also in Groups X and XIV] Covering material 12 is attached to the top of a table 10 or the seat of a chair by folding a portion of the material into a groove 13 provided around the table &c. of depth greater than the width of the top of the groove, pressing the part 14 of the sheet adjacent its edge into the groove to form a double fold of U-shape and thereafter, as a separate operation, pressing into the groove a wedging strip, e.g. a cord 15 arranged to clamp the material against a side wall of the groove. The sheet material is placed over the table, &c. so that its marginal portions overlie the edges of the grooves, and a hand tool with a rotatable pressing disc, or a flat pressing blade is used to doubly fold the marginal portions into the grooves. A wedging strip of circular cross section of string or resilient plastic is then pressed to lie wholly within the groove. The groove may be wider at the bottom than at the top, and a decorative strip may be pressed into the groove over the string, &c. The operation may be performed by a machine.
