Abstract

732,866. Photographic projection printing. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP OPTISCHE INDUSTRIE DE OUDE DELFT. April 28, 1953 [April 29, 1952], No. 11728/53. Classes 98 (1) and 98 (2). A method of making a kinematograph film comprises making a copy of an original film reduced by a factor k by projection printing on a film having a resolving power at least k times greater than that of the original film. As shown, a wide (70 mm.) high-speed original film 1 which is used in X-ray kinematography is unperforated while the 35 mm. high-resolving power copy film 3 has feed perforations. At each film feed, the film 3 is fed on exactly one frame and is then arrested by a pawl 7 engaging in spaced notches 9 in a metering disc 6 fast with a film-driven sprocket 4, while the film 1 is simultaneously fed approximately one frame, the take-up spools 10, 11 being coupled. The film 1 is then located correctly in the projection gate by operation of an overriding manual control to bring an image of register marks 12 on it into registry with fiduciary mark 14 in the eyepiece of a microscope 13. The copy film may be of the direct positive type and instead of the original film a positive copy by two-stage contact printing may be used.
