Abstract

174,621. Correx M³vek Filmipari GÚpgyßr C. Lßszl¾. Dec. 29, 1919, [Convention date]. Machines for photographic copying; index type-wheel machines. - In apparatus for photographically composing matter, adapted more particularly for producing titles and other inscriptions on kinematograph picture films, transparent types are arranged on a disc 7, which is rotated to bring the particular type required into position for projection on to the sensitive band 12 bv means of an auxiliary selecting-disc 20. Provision is made for using different types of the same letters. Arrangements are also described for producing an ink impression from another set of corresponding types 35 on a wheel 5, which is set concurrently with the projected types, which impression is taken just prior to the actual projection. Other arrangements are provided for regulating the spacing according to the particular type selected. The ink impression and the stepping; of the film are controlled from a shaft 3 by the operative members 45 and 77, and are effected before the arm 17 closes the contacts 18 in theprojecting light circuit. The auxiliary setting- disc 20 is adjustably mounted on the shaft 2 of the disc 7 and carries types which can be seen through an opening 23 on an arm 4 which is secured to the shaft 2. By turning the arm 4 till the required type is seen through the aperture 23, the disc 7 is set, and it is locked in position by a spring bolt 26 which engages a corresponding hole 24 in the face of the disc 20. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), a clutch coupling was arranged between the shaft 3 and the switch arm 17, and the printing types were described as being on the periphery of the type disc used for projections. The transparent types were on plates secured to the disc 7. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Case-shift mechanism.-The disc 7 may contain different types of the same letter, such as capitals and small type. The selection of the particular form of type is effected by adjusting the position of the disc 20, for which purpose the disc is adjustably mounted on the shaft 2, and is set by pressing one or other of the setting knobs 33, 34, thereby rocking the lever 32 and the arm 28 attached to the sleeve 27 of the disc. Hammer-impression arrangements.-A printed impression is obtained on a tape 36, prior to photographing the type on the disc 7, by rocking a portion of the tape and an hammer 42 on to the type 35 before the projecting lamp 14 is switched on. The forked arm 40 through which the tape passes, and the hammer, are mounted on a rocking shaft 39 and are drawn down by the arm 43 and a trip pawl 49 on rocking the shaft 45. Letter-spacing mechanism.-By means of the bevel-gearing 54 and ratchet 56, the tape is automatically stepped at each operation. In order to adjust the spacing in accordance with the type used, the film slide or carriage 65 is spaced by a screw 64. This screw is rotated by a spring- retracted band 70 through the ratchet wheel 69 and the movement is. controlled by a feeler 72 and a disc 6 having radial slots of different depths. The disc 6 is set with the type-selecting disc, and, before the selected type is photographed, the resilient operative arm 77 on the main shaft 3 is turned, thereby drawing down the rod 74 and the feeler 72 to the extent allowed by the particular slot in the disc 6. To step the carriage 65 independently, the pawl 81 is released from the ratchet 68 and the screw-shaft 64 rotated by the handle 83. The film is fed forward, after a line has been photographed, by the hand-wheel 61.
