A jogging machine for straightening sheets of paper or the like in a stack includes a jogging table mounted on a base for up and down movement relative thereto, a connection between the table and base whereby upward movement of the table effects levelling thereof, and a motor for vibrating the jogging table. The machine comprises a base 2 on which are mounted sleeve members having bores 8 in which are slidably mounted posts 9. The posts 9 have screw-threaded bars 16 co-operating with screws 17 so that by revolving the screws 17 by means of a reversible motor 26 the posts 9 may be raised or lowered. The upper ends of the posts 9 are connected by trunnions 29 to a sub-table 30 of thick cast metal connected to the jogging table by means of leaf-springs 52, the orientation of the table and sub-table 30 being such that a bisector of the corner 44 of the table extends at right angles to the tilting axis defined by the trunnion 29. Vibration of the table is effected by a motor 61 which operates on eccentric strap 64. Spaced rocker arms 65 mounted on stub shaft 66 are provided with weighted end portions 67. Leaf-springs 71 connect the eccentric with the arms 65 and leafsprings 74 connect the arms 65 with bar members 38, 39 which form part of the jogging table. Mounted on a bracket 88 of the sub-frame 30 is a rod 87 carrying spaced arms 89 adapted to slide on a rod 91 fixed to the base 2. Extending from one of the posts 9 is an arm 97 including a switch finger 96 adapted to co-operate with the laterally-extending fingers 98, 99 on collars 93, 94 which limit the movement of the arms 89. When the table is in its lowermost tilted position and the switch 96 is operated the initial upward movement of the posts 9 causes the table to assume a less degree of tilt owing to the action of springs 85, 86. Further upward movement of the posts 9 causes upward movement of the table until the upper arm 89 contacts the collar 93. The posts then continue the upward movement so that the table is levelled out against the action of the springs 85, 86, a level position being assumed by the table at the instant the finger 98 operates the switch 96 to stop the motor. Reversal of the motor 26 causes a corresponding lowering and tilting of the table. Handles 111 are provided whereby the sides 48 of the table may be swung downwardly for sliding sheets on the table when it is in its level position.
