Abstract

731,931. Electromagnetic switches. HOLLANDER, J. M. March 13, 1953 [March 29, 1952 ; June 16, 1952], Nos. 8060/52 and 15057/52. Class 38 (5). A switch comprises a number of insulating body portions 12 each having pairs of spaced cheeks 30, 31 between which fixed contacts 13 are held by screws 14. Each portion 12 has holes 35 on one side and projections (Fig. 7, not shown) on the other side so that the desired number of portions 12 may be assembled side-by-side and located by the inter-engagement of the holes 35 and projections. Fig. 2 shows two portions 12 symmetrically arranged on each side of a central element 11 and between end plates 17 having mounting flanges 18, the element 11 and plates 17 being similarly provided with locating holes and projections, and the assembly being held together by a pair of bolts 37 passing through aligned holes 37a. Arms 22 pivoted to the end plates 17 carry a bar composed of insulating portions 40, 41, 42, 46 held together by a pair of bolts 44. Certain of the portions 40 carry stirrups 50 having spring-loaded normally-open bridging contacts 24, Fig. 4. Portion 41 carries an electromagnet armature 26 journalled on a pin 58 anchored in supports 59, whereby the armature may correctly engage the magnet 60 mounted on the body element 11. When the magnet is energized the parts have the positions shown in the drawing. The portions 12 with the contacts 24 are modified, Fig. 4, by removal of a web 57 (Fig. 5) and by the provision of slots 55 for receiving a plate 54 which guides the stem 53 of the contact. In a modification (not shown) in which each portion 12 carries a single fixed contact, the bar may be directly pivoted to the body parts and have movable contacts extending laterally therefrom. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 697,511.
