Abstract
731,864. Dental articulators. FISCHER, R. March 20, 1953 [March 21, 1952], No. 7768/53. Class 81 (2). An articulator has condyle pivot guides for setting the lateral bite angle, i.e. the angle braced by a point on the jaw as the latter is moved from one side to the other. The upper model holder 12 is carried on ball-ended pivots 9, the balls being supported in cups 8, 47 and having their lateral movement limited by individually adjustable blocks 10, 11 and 39, 46. The cups themselves are also adjustable vertically by screws 42 and about the condyle axis by nuts 6, 40. The front end of the upper member is supported on a pin 20 engaging an incisal guide 21 which is adjustable about a fore and after axis 22 and about a transverse axis, the former movement being set by a screw 26 and the latter by a screw 28. The various movements of the upper member are traced by a pointer 15 on a waxed plate 14, the position of which is determined by a face bow. In more simplified forms of the appliance the condylar pivots are replaced by slotted or V-grooved members set to provide generally average results and the incisal guide is replaced by a V-grooved, member. The Specification also describes the use of two plates, one carrying a stylus, for attachment to the upper and lower jaws of the patient, for determining the movement of the jaw during mastication.
