Abstract

731,286. Pneumatic tyres.- DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Aug. 31, 1953 [Sept. 16, 1952], No. 23192/52. Class 144 (2). A pneumatic tyre cover has a circumferentially extending tread reinforcement strip 3 comprising a series of contiguous overlapping triangular-shaped convolutions 11 of substantially inextensible rubber-coated filamentary material 10, such as steel or nylon wire, strip or cord, the base 12 of each convolution being shorter than the height and extending transversely of the tread 1 normal to the tyre side walls 2. The triangular convolutions may be formed as a continuous winding as shown or may be separate windings. The tyre carcase may have a flexible side wall construction comprising two plies 7 of parallel textile cords, the cords of the two plies being oppositely biased and meeting the tyre beads at an angle between 70 and 90 degrees. The apex angle of each triangular convolution 11 may be 40 degrees, the convolutions being isosceles in shape.
