Abstract
731,187. Screw presses &c. SCHULER AKT.-GES., L. Dec. 10, 1952 [Dec. 12, 1951], No. 31294/52. Class 87 (2). Relates to screw drawing presses of the kind comprising a screw moving a drawing ram wherein a flywheel is mounted on the screw and consists in the interposition of a torque-transmitting fluid coupling between the driving motor and the driven part, preferably the screw. A housing 4, 17 incorporating blades 19, forms the driving member of the fluid coupling, being secured to the shaft 22 of the motor 3 and freely rotatable on the shaft of the screw 6, Fig. 1. The driven member 5 is fixed to the screw 6 and incorporates blades 21. A hydraulic brake comprises a pressure cylinder 11 with a piston 10 which carries a pressure plate 15 with a brake lining 14. When the press ram 8 reaches its upper position, as shown, a stop 23 thereon strikes a piston 24 of a hydraulic pressure cylinder 25 and causes pressure fluid to be forced into the cylinder 11, with the result that the plate 15 is pressed against the riin of a flywheel 7 keyed on the screw 6. This braking action can be adjusted by varying the capacity of an air cushion above the piston 24. A reduction gear may be fitted between the fluid coupling and the screw, Fig. 2, with a friction clutch to protect it against rebound impacts. The clutch comprises a plate 31, with teeth 29 on its periphery, between two plates 32, 33. The plate 31 is geared to a pinion 45 on the driven shaft of the fluid coupling and the plates 32, 33 are rotatable with the screw 6 and slidable on it under the pressure of a spring 35. When the ram 8 reaches its bottom position a bar 41 thereon operates a reversing switch 38 and when it reaches its upper position a bar 41<1> operates a switch 39 to switch off the motor, which is of the sliding armature type incorporating a brake which operates when the current is switched off. Safety hand levers 43, 44 must be held down while the switch is operating; if released, the drive is reversed.
