Abstract

730,768. Suction cleaners. HALLSTROM, O. H. Dec. 19, 1953, No. 35390/53. Class 8 (1). A vacuum cleaner table comprises a suction chamber 8 having a slot 10 through which dirt is drawn, the effective length of which is adjustable. The chamber 8 is supported on a frame 1 to which is detachably secured a cleaner 5 which is connected to the chamber 8 by a hose 6. The discharge from the cleaner may be supplied with disinfectant and blown through the article to be cleaned. Two plungers 19 are slidably fitted in the suction chamber 8 and by means of knobs 11 secured thereto are moved to vary the effective length of the slot 10. In a modification a rotatable valve is fitted in the chamber 8 and is used to blank off varying lengths of the slot. Alternatively, a rotary valve is fitted outside the chamber and has a plurality of slots of varying lengths which are brought into register with a full length slot in the chamber. In a further modification, flexible strips are slidably mounted in grooves on either side of the slot whereby varying lengths of the slot may be blanked off. In a still further modification, two slotted chambers are slidably mounted adjacent each other and by overlapping, the effective length of the slots may be varied. Pegs or bristles may be fitted to the frame adjacent the slot to roughen the surface of the article before it reaches the slot. The Specification also states that the article may be vibrated and may be fitted with electrostatic dust removal means. The suction chamber may be mounted above the table or an additional chamber may be provided to clean the top surface of the article simultaneously.
