A weft cutting mechanism for a weaving loom having automatic bobbin change comprises a member 1 having a cutting edge and pivoted thereto a counter blade 2. The member 1 is pivoted at 3 and as it is swung forward the counter blade abuts against the rim 5 of the temple fixing and severs the end of the weft thread extending from the exhausted bobbin, and in a further movement the end of the thread from the newly supplied bobbin. The thread cutting is effected while the slay moves away from the beat-up position. In one embodiment (Fig. 3) the member 1 is operated by a lever 4 hinged at 16 and carrying a further lever 11 which engages an abutment 12 on the loom slay, the threads then being cut each time the slay moves to the rear. The mechanism operates twice at each bobbin change and is held inoperative by a hook 10 engaging a slide 9 linked by a lever 8 to the bobbin change rod 7. On rotation of the rod 7, the slide 9 moves forward and releases the hook 10 allowing the levers 4 and 11 to sink and engage the slay. In another embodiment (Fig. 6), the member 1 is engaged with the lever 4 by a pin and slot, and the drive for the mechanism is taken from the picking shaft 22 by means of a cam 21 and a follower 23 on a slide link 20 through a linkage 19, 18, 17. The mechanism is held inoperative by the slide 9 engaging a pin 29 on lever 4, the motion of said slide being controlled by movement of the bobbin change rod, 7 and link 24.
