728,340. Boxes. PIGATTI, A., and JORIO, F. May 29, 1953 [May 30, 1952; Sept. 2, 1952], No. 15064/53. Class 18. A collapsible box comprises a base consisting of a slab of material 2 within a metal angle bar frame 1, and metal framed walls which detachably engage in a groove 3 between the edge of the slab 2 and the inner vertical walls of the angle bar frame. As indicated in Fig. 3, pins 4 in the angle bar frame engage holes 9 in the walls. The end walls have bolts 12, Fig. 1, slidably mounted in sleeves 10, and the bolts engage similar sleeves 8 in adjacent walls to hold the structure together. The lid consists of a slab of material within a metal angle bar which embraces the sides of the box, and includes pivot-carrying half-hinges which engage female half-hinges on one of the box walls. Instead of the sleeves and bolts the walls may be secured by a shaped angle bar 24, Fig. 10, secured to two vertical sides of opposite walls which house the edges 27 of adjacent walls, and the walls are held in position by pivoted catches 29 which engage lugs 30. Alternatively, the connections between the base and walls may be as shown in Figs. 8, 9 or 12, and the base and walls may include diagonal stiffeners.
