Apparatus for sawing large sheets of material, such as plastic sheets, comprises a flat table or bed a on which a sheet can be placed to rest against a fence a<SP>3</SP>, a carriage b traversable on rails a<SP>2</SP> beneath the table and carrying a circular saw b<SP>2</SP> that protrudes through a slot in the table, and a guard and clamp member c that holds the sheet on the table while it is cut by traversing the carriage by means such as cable d on drums d<SP>1</SP>, the protruding portion of the saw being accommodated in a groove c<SP>3</SP> in the member c. At one end, the member c may be formed with a handle c<SP>4</SP> for pressing it down on the sheet and with a locating peg c<SP>2</SP> engaging a hole in the table while, at the other end, to allow easy detachment and to accommodate sheets of varying thickness, it may have either a bent plate c<SP>1</SP> held in an open slot in the fence by a spring-loaded plate a<SP>5</SP> or a hooked plate engaging under a spring-loaded cylindrical member on top of the fence. The saw is rotated by a motor b<SP>1</SP> on the carriage and one of the cable drums d<SP>1</SP> may be driven from a motor in the base of the table.
